Cloud transformation
Modernising an under-resourced SME technology environment
Context
A growing New Zealand organisation needed to modernise a legacy on-premises environment while working with limited internal capacity. The programme had to improve the technology estate without creating a cloud platform that was difficult for the organisation to govern or support.
My remit
As Cloud Transformation Lead, I worked with the executive team and CTO to connect infrastructure decisions with business priorities, operational risk, security, and long-term maintainability.
What I focused on
- Led the move of key services and processes toward Azure-based operation.
- Applied Azure Cloud Adoption Framework practices with an emphasis on governance, access control, security, and supportability.
- Improved access controls and introduced security policies during the wider environment overhaul.
- Designed a Power Automate guest-user onboarding process that allowed the office manager to control external access to SharePoint Online through a consistent workflow.
- Managed vendors, mentored junior staff, and helped restart technical initiatives that had lost momentum.
Outcome
The organisation gained a more reliable and maintainable technology foundation. The guest-access workflow also moved an everyday business process closer to the team that owned it while retaining consistency and control.
Confidentiality
The organisation is intentionally anonymised. The emphasis is on the leadership approach and transferable outcome rather than organisation-specific implementation detail.
